“Gamer Intensity” rating system
1 – No level: Generally can be played with anyone. Often familiar and popular themes and simplistic instructions. Likely playable with younger audiences (ages 8+). Typical play time is under an hour.
2 – Entry level: Requires an open mind and attention to rules. Theme is accessible and rulebook is not intimidating. May be playable with younger audiences (ages 8+). Game length is usually 30 minutes – 1 hour.
3 – Basic level: Uses basic gaming mechanics that may not be familiar to non-gamers but can be learned relatively easily. Theme usually is less approachable to the average person and rulebook may be thicker. Most often more mature age group (ages 10+). Game generally lasts 45 minutes – 1 ½ hours.
4 – Mid- level: Requires thorough reading of rules, prior gaming experience helpful. Theme is likely more eccentric and rulebook is longer and more detailed. Not recommended for pre-teens and younger. Game play normally is 1 ½ to 3 hours.
5 – Upper level: Multiple readings of rules may be required, previewing video play-throughs useful. Best for seasoned gamers. Theme is enthusiast level and rulebook is lengthy. Recommended for adults. Game length is almost always at least 2 hours, often significantly longer.
